The Hovering Inferno, also known as Wildfire, Mob D, Imperial Blaze or the Master Blaze, was a type of Boss Mob that was proposed to appear in the video game Minecraft.
History[]
In 2017, Mojang held a contest where people could vote on a new type of hostile mob to be added to the game.
Mob D, referred to by Jens "Jeb" Bergensten as the Hovering Inferno, would have been a boss mob located in the Nether. It would fly around the area with a pack of Blazes, and use shield-like plates to defend itself from attack. It would shoot fire and create shockwaves, and Jeb stated that the player would almost certainly require Fire Resistance effects to stand a chance against it.
Despite a positive reception, the mob lost to Mob B, which would later go on to become Phantoms.
The mob was later intended to appear in the spinoff game Minecraft Dungeons, but was cut due to time constraints. Its texture files and model still appear in the game's code before Luminous Night, where the mob returns.
