The Didact is the main antagonist of the original story of Halo 5: Guardians. He is a Forerunner Promethean who was driven insane during the Forerunner-Flood War and created the Prometheans that resulted to his exile.
History[]
After his defeat bynthe hands of the Master Chief, the Didact fell into the Slipspace drive where he would eventually be affected by the Composer's affect and have himself digitized. Despite his defeat, he was eventually composed into a powerful Promethean monstrosity that will allow him to turn the tide in favor for his war against humanity. In doing so, he would prepare for the evolution of the Promethean constructs to reveal their true horror.
As he gains enough power and intended that the Storm Covenant will defeat the UNSC, he soon influences the Prometheans as they evolved to reveal themselves as eldritch bio-mechanical monstrosities with an expanded variety as well as infecting any individual into a Promethean including a Sangheili and a Mgalekgolo. In addition to the Prometheans, he would gain access to the Sockets that will be used as infrantry, vehicles or weapons and the Promethean Guardians that will awaken to hear the Didact's call to serve him on his mission for conquest.
Aware of the Didact's survival and motives, the Master Chief, who is presumably now on the run from ONI and wearing a cloak, decides to take on him as he ventures at a desert where he will encounter one of the Guardians emerging and preparing to attack. From this, the Master Chief woukd eventually fight alongside Blue Team to oppose the Didact and end his plan for galactic conquest.
Trivia[]
- As a result of the divisive feedback from the fanbase and Brian Reed's direction, the Didact was removed from the game in favor of Cortana and was killed off in Halo: Escalation along with Jul getting killed off to be replaced by the Warden Eternal which sparked a controversial feedback from the fans.
- Despite this, he did make a return in Halo: Epitaph with a redemption arc.
