NOTE: This article is about Sentinel Prime in the cancelled Season 4 of the Transformers: Animated series. Put only the season 4's Sentinel information here |
Sentinel Minor, later known as Sentinel Prime and Sentinel Magnus, is a major character in the 2007 animated TV series, Transformers: Animated series.
He is the former best friend of Optimus Prime who upon a fatal decision by Sentinel resulted in the loss of his close friend and implied girlfriend, Elita-1, to which Sentinel acts nothing more than a petty bully towards Optimus for being expelled even though the only reason he did so to cover up Sentinel.
Sentinel Prime would have played a significant role as the antagonist. He would have risen to power on Cybertron, potentially leading to a Cybertronian society with a phobia or hatred towards organics. His motivations would be linked to maintaining his rule and even collaborating with Megatron, ultimately leading to a planned invasion of Earth.
He was voiced by Townsend Coleman, Peter Reinhardt in the German version, Junichi Suwabe in the Japanese version.
History[]
Sentinel Prime was envisioned as a major antagonist in season 4, potentially turning Cybertron into a fascist-like society where organics were viewed with disdain.
He would have seized power on Cybertron, possibly after Ultra Magnus's death. Prime's actions would be influenced by or even orchestrated by Megatron, who would manipulate him for his own purposes.
The ultimate goal of Sentinel Prime's plans would have been to launch an invasion of Earth, likely in collaboration with Megatron.
In the two-part season finale, Blackarachnia's Predacons attack Cybertron, and Sentinel agrees to ally with Megatron to defeat them. But Optimus realises that the Decepticon leader is only playing the Autobots and Predacons off against each other so that he and his forces can conquer the planet.
In "Megatron Must Be Destroyed!" Part 2", Powermaster Optimus Prime defeats the real Megatron, only for Megatron to then download his mind into the city of Kaon itself. Using Blackarachnia's technorganic virus, Megatron has the city begin to grow to cover Earth. Vague, unfinalised notes state that the episode would have wrapped up with Sari discovering a deeper connection between herself and Blackarachnia, Sentinel redeeming himself, and Optimus defeating Megatron and saving Earth once again.
Trivia[]
- In the planned season 4 of Animated, Sentinel would try to secure his position as Sentinel Magnus after Megatron's escape from prison and the death of Ultra Magnus, first by commissioning a Powermaster upgrade for himself from the Project Omega team, then by invading Earth with the intent of using the collected AllSpark fragments to defeat Megatron. Optimus would steal Sentinel's Powermaster upgrade and travel to Earth to stop Sentinel from making a huge mistake. Had the "Powermaster Optimus Prime" toy been completed, designers vaguely planned, if at all possible, for it to also be compatible with the Sentinel Prime toy.
- His title, Sentinel Magnus, coincidentally share with the same name as the OTFCC 2004 exclusive character of the same name.
