SCP-924-ARC, also known as the Ice Water Men, is a species of monsters in the SCP Foundation universe. They are antlered humanoids that prey on fishermen in Arctic waters, drag them underwater and eat their organs.

Description[]

Behavior and Procedure[]

SCP-924-ARC is described by the SCP Foundation as an "ambush predator". They normally hunt in areas with freezing temperatures, but sometimes migrate as far south as Michigan to find prey. Instances will swim around beneath the ice and track their prey by either scent or by vibrations through the ice. The creatures can move at up to 30 km/h and, due to breathing through gills, are capable of surviving at depths of up to one kilometer. Once the victim has been found, SCP-924-ARC either emerges from a hole or breaks through the ice with superhuman strength and drags the human underwater. The victim will eventually drown and have their organs eaten by SCP-924-ARC, which often takes several hours. SCP-924-ARC also carries a highly dangerous strain of bacteria that will eat through all human body tissue while leaving skin and bones unharmed. While the creatures normally appear underwater, they are capable of moving on dry land to attack fishing boats.

Foundation procedure to deal with SCP-924-ARC is to contain all captured specimens in large saltwater tanks with a temperature of 1.6ºC. The tanks are heated to 7ºC whenever they need to be cleaned, as any temperature higher than 4ºC causes instances to become dormant. All captured specimens are regularly fed fresh meat.

Discovery[]

SCP-924-ARC first came to the attention of the Foundation when they attacked and killed several ice fishermen in an unknown location. When the Foundation investigated, they discovered and captured several SCP-924-ARC specimens and formed a taskforce, known as the "Polar Pathfinders", to deal with the threat. In at least one case, an instance of SCP-924-ARC was seen moving onto dry land to attack an unwary fishing boat, although there were no casualties. The Foundation is currently working to contain or destroy all instances of SCP-924-ARC to prevent further deaths.
