Johann Schmidt, also known as Red Skull, is the former head of Hydra and one of the planned main antagonists in The Avengers.
He would be featured alongside Loki to serve as the main antagonist of the film, both will be present at the battle of New York. Unfortunately, Red Skull was removed to pave way for Thanos.
He would be repraised by Hugo Weaving.

Originally, Red Skull would come back via Tessaract transporting him to the present. He would then team up with Loki to fight against Avengers.

- Red Skull got send by the Tessaract is serve as a “tease” for his return in The Avengers.
- Red Skull eventually return in Avengers: Infinity and Avengers: Endgame. Played by Ross Marquand, where Red Skull is the known as Stonekeeper who guards the Soul Stone on Vomir.
- Despite not being featured in the film, Red Skull still featured in promotion materials of The Avengers.
