Nightmare is a planned antagonist for both Doctor Strange and its sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Nightmare is the ruler of dream dimension, able to project magic and able to control people through a method known as “dreamwalking”. However, he was unfortunately removed from both films entirely.
It is unknown who will play him.

Doctor Strange[]
Nightmare was originally planned to fought against Doctor Strange as the antagonist of the film. However, Kevin Feige suggested to use Dormammu as the main villain due to the concept of dream dimension is too complex in the infinity saga. Thus Nightmare was removed.

Nightmare was originally considered as the main antagonist of the film, where he would be faced off against Doctor Drange, Wong, Baron Mordo and Scarlet Witch. He would be the one responsible for the deaths of multiple Doctor Strange variants. Eventually, Strange would defeat him. However, due to Covid-19 pandemic as well as change of schedule as Marvel swapped the release date of this film and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Waldron’s script was completely altered. Leaving Scarlet Witch as the main villain.

- Nightmare’s design in those concept arts were drawn resembling Doctor Strange (and in a certain aspects like Doctor Doom), as Nightmare was going to possessing a Doctor Strange variant using his dreamwalking to attack strange.
- It is uncertain if Nightmare would be the main antagonist for the third and possibly even the fourth Doctor Strange movie.
