Ned was originally the main antagonist of the Pixar movie Monsters Inc., before it was changed to Randall.

Ned does not look anything like the Randall seen in the final version of the movie; he did not have his appearance as a monster similar to a purple longhorn, but rather he looked like a marine creature like an orange shark, with purple spines on his neck and sharp large fangs.
He was the main scarer of his job, unlike Randall, who was surpassed by Suliver as a scarer at the beginning of the film. In the original idea, Suliver is called Johnson and he was not considered scary nor was he respected.
After discovering the friendship that Johnson had developed with a girl named Mary (Boo), Ned accuses him of the authorities, thus getting Johnson into trouble.
