Mr. Klammer is the posthumous overarching antagonist mentioned in the original screenplay of Orphan.
Biography[]
In the original screenplay for the film, Leena Klammer's father is mentioned in her backstory, a majority of which was excluded from the final film.
After his wife died of AIDS, he developed an incestuous attraction to their daughter, Leena, and without her mother or anyone else to stop him, he proceeded to sexually abuse her all her life from infancy to adulthood.
As a result of his nonstop sexual abuse of her, she was permanently rendered infertile before she was even out of diapers. Furthermore, this psychologically damaged her and caused her to believe that sexual relations between a father and his daughter were perfectly normal.
Disturbingly, she grew to embrace the sexual abuse, believing that it was his way of showing love to her. After Leena became an adult, her father lost interest in her, taking on a new unnamed partner and telling Leena that with her dwarfism, she would never be a real woman. This enraged Leena, which resulted in her murdering her father and his new lover.
Unfortunately, the events of her life caused Leena to grow up to become a serial killer.
Personality[]
Mr. Klammer was an incredibly sick and twisted pervert who had no qualms about sexually abusing children or even infants, even if they were related to him. After his wife died and he was left the sole guardian of their daughter, he ceased the opportunity to use her for sexual purposes to fill the void left by his wife.
He raped her on a very regular basis, to the point she was already rendered permanently infertile before she was even out of diapers. He continued to sexually abuse her all the way until she reached adulthood, at which point he lost interest in her and abandoned her for a new partner, not caring at all about the damage he had done to her psyche.
When his daughter asked him why he no longer wanted her, he proceeded to ridicule her by telling her that her dwarfism meant that she would never be a real woman. This shows that he didn't genuinely care for his daughter at all and only saw her as a means to an end.
This also shows that he had a very insensitive opinion on people with dwarfism and was not above bullying his own daughter.
Trivia[]
- As his daughter's backstory in the first Orphan film makes no mention of her biological family, it's unknown of Mr. Klammer and his actions remain canonical or not in regards to Leena Klammer's past. When the Orphan: First Kill prequel was announced, several fans thought it would delve into Esther's origins and reuse the scrapped details from the first film's original screenplay such as Mr. Klammer, but the prequel ultimately just deported how Leena obtained her Esther identity and didn't flesh out her early life and childhood. As there's a third Orphan film in the works (though this will be a sequel to the original film), whether that film flesh es out Esther's past and maybe her father or not has yet to be confirmed.
