Mephiles the Dark was set to be one of the two main antagonists, alongside Black Doom, of the "Shadow Fall" arc of the Sonic Universe comic book series. He would have revived Black Doom and joined forces with him to get revenge on Shadow for defeating them both.
Biography[]
Mephiles the Dark's past was roughly the same as his video game counterpart's, meaning he was born when Solaris split into him and Iblis, reunited with Iblis to reform Solaris and destroy time, and was subsequently defeated by Sonic, Shadow and Silver and erased from existence.
In "Shadow Fall", Mephiles would somehow come back and revive Black Doom. The two would confront Shadow, intending to get revenge on him for their past defeats. The arc would end with Shadow killing Black Doom once more, while Mephiles would escape and plot another scheme.
Trivia[]
- Sega vetoed the inclusion of Black Doom and Mephiles, as their mandates forbid bringing canonically dead characters back to life. As such, Ian Flynn created Eclipse the Darkling to take Mephiles' place.
- Null, another unpublished Archie Comics villain, is very similar to Mephiles in appearance.
- Ironically, both Black Doom and Mephiles would return to face Shadow in Shadow Generations, also written by Ian Flynn.
