You are not a warrior, you are a beginner.
~ The default death quote for Cuphead, which also appears after losing to the Jareeds in the DicePalaceTest level.

Jareeds are unused enemies in the 2017 run and gun video game, Cuphead.

Disembodied heads oddly suspended in the air, they float around trying to kill Cuphead. As stated by the developers, the Jareeds were placeholders for certain projectiles.

History[]

Taken from an interview with Jared Mouldenhauer, one of the co-creators of Cuphead and co-founders of Studio MDHR, the Jareeds were designed by Tony Coculuz, a former lead developer of Cuphead to test how enemies could interact with the player. Because of this, they are not programmed to take damage and hurt the player when they make contact. They appear are the sole enemies of the test level, DicePalaceTest, as well as supporting enemies in the Light’s boss level. In both levels, they have the same purpose: Serve as obstacles for the player by moving back and forth in a linear motion.

In the files, a crudely drawn version of Cuphead with a cartoon Jareed head aptly named “Jareedhead” can be found. It is unknown why it is there; however, it is most likely an inside joke about the developers.
