The Guardians are the titular major antagonists of the original script of Halo 5: Guardians.
They originally serve as constructs that enforce laws on Forerunner worlds for peace and participated in the Forerunners' war against the Flood. After being buried, the Didact would become Composed and gain influence on the Guardians, having them mutated imto eldritch machines to spread his influence by spreading the Prometheans to consume and conquer the galaxy.
Biography[]
The Guardians were created by the Forerunners with an effort to enforce their imperial peace of the Mantle when they deemed any opposing world as troublesome. They would then participate in the Forerunner-Flood war where they attempted to turn the tables against the Flood by shooting out their EMP, but the blast proved futile against the Flood. Despite being ineffective against the Flood, the Forerunners recognized the threat that the Guardians have posed and had each of them deactivated and buried within numerous plans to prevent them from their destructive rampage.
Many years after their deactivation, the Didact would be reborn as a powerful Promethean construct and resumes his goals to defeat humanity by influencing the Prometheans to reveal their true selves as eldritch machines to infect anyone into a Promethean to give the Storm Covenant a path to win. As he does so, he would interface and take control of other Forerunner tech imcluding the Sockets and the Guardians to help his forces with the Guardians emerging and changed into eldritch machine gods to spread the Promethean infection in their destructive wake. Master Chief was aware of the threat the Guardians posed and the Didact's involvement and presumably goes on the run from ONI in his search to not only stop the Didact but to find out about who he truly was before his capture by ONI.
Venturing to a desert where one of the Guardians is buried deep within, Master Chief, who now wears a cloak, approaches to the burial site where a Guardian emerges from the ground and sends out an EMP blast at him. Despite being powerful, Master Chief remainined standing as it manage to reveal his helmet wih a cracked visor as he prepares to take on the monstrous abomination.
Trivia[]
- As a result of the original script to be changed, the Guardians have changed from eldritch machines to standard deadly technology as used by Cortana in the final game.
