Gigan was set to be a minor antagonist in the 2019 movie Godzilla King Of The Monsters.
He would be one of the many titans awoken by King Ghidorah’s alpha call to wreck havoc on humanity.
Appearance[]
In concept art for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, Gigan mostly resembled his previous incarnations, being a large reptilian monster with golden sails on it’s back, a single rudimentary horn on his forehead, a beak surrounded by insect-like mandibles, a spiked chest, a single red eye or visor, and large hook-like claws in place of hands. However, he is notably much bulkier than the past versions of Gigan, as well as appearing to possibly be fully organic rather than cybernetic, and having more rough and rugged skin.
In Monarch: G-Team, he appears very similar, though with much more vibrant colors and a more slim frame. In addition, his claws are more curled compared to his King Of The Monsters design.
History[]
Gigan’s role in the movie is largely unknown, though given concept art featuring him, it is highly likely he would be one of the monsters awoken by King Ghidorah to aid him in the destruction of humanity. He would soon pledge his allegiance to Godzilla following Ghidorah’s defeat.
Trivia[]
- While most “new” monsters are merely placeholders using stock images of animals or pre-existing kaiju, Gigan has a wholly new and unique design, suggesting that Gigan’s presence in the film was planned much further than other scrapped kaiju from the movie.
- It is unknown if Gigan is still an alien being, or if his origins were changed to be an Earth/Hollow Earth creature instead.
- He is set to make his first proper debut in the upcoming anime Monarch: G-Team, however due to complications regarding Legendary greenlighting it, receiving the rights to Gigan and various other Toho Kaiju, it’s unknown if this will see the light of day.
