Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik is the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog series, and was likewise meant to play a major antagonistic role in the cancelled game Sonic X-treme, which had gone through many story pitches.
Role in the game[]
The game's plot has gone through many variations, but in all of them Robotnik played a major role, usually that of the main antagonist.
Sonic Mars[]
Dr. Robotnik attempts to take over Micro Mobius, a digital reality, and "reformat" it. Additionally, he captures the inhabitants of Knothole and transports them into said reality. Inhabitants of Micro Mobius send a distress call to Sonic, causing him to intervene.
Sonic Saturn[]
Having captured Knuckles and Tails, as well as acquired the Master Emerald, Dr. Robotnik shatters the mystic gem in hopes of unlocking the power within. Instead, six beings known as Chaos Elementals are freed, capturing the doctor, as well as Tails and Knuckles. Sonic has to defeat the Elementals and save his friends and arch-enemy from their clutches.
Sonic Twist[]
In this version of the plot, as Sonic is headed to Tiara Boobowski's for a date, Robotnik spies on him and decides to test his SuperDooper MegaRay Cannon on the forest Sonic is in to not only ruin his date, but trap him forever. The cannon's blast launches trees and many other objects into the sky, forcing Sonic to navigate them in an attempt to escape.
SonicBOOM[]
Robotnik is infected with a deadly Doom Virus. To get a cure, he infects Sonic, who in his turn turns to Professor Gazebo Boobowski for help. As Sonic is collecting ingredients for the cure, Robotnik captures the professor and disguises himself as him, later attempting to trick Sonic into giving him the final ingredient. Sonic figures out that he's been tricked and fights the doctor.
Sonic DOOM[]
Robotnik breaks the Master Emerald, believing that some ultimate power is contained within. This results in the escape of a legion of villains known as ChaosDoom, who take control of his robots and become a new threat to Mobius. Alongside them, the deadly Doom Virus is released, and Robotnik contracts it. He tries to get information about a cure from Professor Boobowski, but achieves nothing. He then kidnaps the professor's daughter Tiara, and sets Sonic up to get infected while trying to rescue her. As Sonic searches for the cure from the virus, Robotnik plans to eventually snatch it from him, and has his slave-bots build the ultimate weapon, Super Mega Boss, in the meantime. Eventually, Robotnik takes Boobowski's place and tries to trick Sonic into giving him the last ingredient to the cure. When his disguise is blown, the final fight against the doctor in the Super Mega Boss ensues.
SonicPC[]
Sonic banishes Robotnik into a faraway galaxy, hoping that he'll start a new life there. Several years later, Robotnik, now operating a new Death Egg, starts abducting life forms across the universe and bringing them towards his new base of operations. Sonic gets captured as well, but ends up on a nearby planet instead of the Death Egg itself.
SONIC XTREME[]
After Robotnik's defeat in Sonic & Knuckles, he returns with a new giant Death Egg, even bigger than Sonic's planet. The Death Egg has already captured several planets in its orbit, and its inhabitants, Mips, are being turned into Robotnik's minions. Sonic steps in to put a stop to the doctor's plans.
Trivia[]
- Robotnik's role in Sonic X-treme would be partially adapted into a movie had both it and the game not been cancelled.
