Darkseid, born Uxas, was the main antagonist of the DC Extended Universe. He is an ancient and all-powerful cosmic warlord who reigns over the planet Apokolips and desires to rule the multiverse with the Anti-Life Equation. Darkseid is also the arch-nemesis of the Justice League.

He tasked his exiled uncle and former herald, Steppenwolf, to retrieve the boxes and finally take over Earth after Superman's death. In a potential dark future known as the Knightmare, Darkseid was successful in activating the Anti-Life Equation, using it to corrupt Superman and turn the Earth into a hellish wasteland.

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, he was voiced by Ray Porter. Who would've reprised the role had the story been concluded.

Behind the scenes[]

Darkseid was planned to first appear in the first Justice League film directed by Zack Snyder. However when Snyder suffered a family tragedy, WB were unwilling to wait so replaced him with Joss Whedon for the film's reshoots, Darkseid was completely cut from the movie and was only mentioned once by Steppenwolf. Eventually when Snyder released his director's cut of the film, all of Darkseid's scenes were restored to critical acclaim from DC and Snyder fans.

However despite the overall positive reception from both fans and critics for Zack Snyder's Justice League, all of Snyder’s storylines were still scrapped because of a lack of interest from WB.

Trivia[]

  • Zack Snyder would later work with Ray Porter again in Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.
  • The intention of making Darkseid the main antagonist of the DC Extended Universe is very similar to what the Marvel Cinematic Universe did with Thanos in the Infinity Saga.
    • Ironic that Darkseid would be inspired by how Marvel implemented Thanos in film, since Thanos' creator Jim Starlin himself used influences from Darkseid to complete the character.
