NOTE: This page is about Burntrap's cut role in the original version of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach and should not be confused with his canonical counterpart. |

“ | Originally, Burntrap was never supposed to move. He was supposed to just be... something you saw in the corners, or like if you were walking past machinery, you might be able to peek in between two things and see him in the corner, propped up against the wall. Almost like a decayed movie prop. | „ |
~ Scott Cawthon on Burntrap's original purpose. |
In the original story of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, Burntrap was never intended to be a major menace, let alone the final boss of the videogame like in the final release.
According to Scott Cawthon, he was a ghostly apparition that would appear in random corners and in certain hidden areas of the game, just in the range of the player's peripheral vision, only to vanish into thin air when they turned to him. He was intended to play an unknown yet "very specific" role in the overarching narrative of the game despite his minor appearances.
However, because of major discommunication from Scott Cawthon's part, Steel Wool Games had to rework the story from the ground up using small clues and pieces left by Cawthon, leading to his role in the final game.
In the second trailer for Security Breach, he is voiced by Matthew Curtis.
Trivia[]
- In the very first teaser trailer for Security Breach, many fans spotted a rabbit-like silhouette hidden in a corner, obscured by the shadows. For years to come, the fandom would theorize that this was a first look at Burntrap. Four years after the trailer first released, this was indirectly confirmed by Scott Cawthon in his second interview with Dawko, where he described Burntrap's original purpose which alligned with the trailer's silhouette.
- A notorious member of the community, Entom, posted on Twitter that they tried spawning Burntrap in the same room to try to recreate the shot, only to find out that he cannot be spawned in on that room in specific. They believe that this is because Steel Wool didn't want the fans to recreate the shot in the first place.
- This iteration of Burntrap has been jokingly compared to Herobrine from Minecraft by fans due to their similar behavior.
- Although his status as a ghostly apparition may indicate that he's William Afton's spirit haunting Gregory, it's also plausible that he's in reality The Mimic, causing hallucinations on Gregory for attempting to defy him, given that GGY, the story that heavily implies that Glitchtrap had taken over Gregory's mind in the past, was being written by this point.
