~ Black Falcon |
Rodrigo Falcone, also known as Black Falcon, was intended to be the main antagonist of the movie LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, the early version of The LEGO Movie. He is the head of the Empura corporation who rules the world but laments that it's not exactly the way he wants, and seeks to change it with the use of Kragle. He was replaced by Lord Business in the final script.
Biography[]
Past[]
Rodrigo was once a student of Vitruvius, learning to be a MasterBuilder. He also had a girlfriend named Doris. One day, he completed the construction of a "secret lair" and showed it to his mentor, only for Vitruvius to destroy it. While he only intended to teach the young student the importance of valuing the practice more than outcome, Rodrigo was instead enraged over his hard work being destroyed before his eyes. As a result, he began to amass power, eventually becoming the leader of Empura, the company that controlled the entire world, and hunt down MasterBuilders, locking them inside his Think Tank and forcing them to write instructions which everyone in the LEGO universe was forced to comply with. Eventually, he stole the Kragle, a tube of Krazy Glue, and began planning to freeze the entire universe using it.
LEGO: The Piece of Resistance[]
When Emmet, a construction worker, went against the instructions on his first day at work and got arrested as a result, his mother Doris broke him out and helped him escape. While Emmet was saved by Lucy, Doris was captured by Black Falcon's minions and brought before the despot. He revealed to her the plan to freeze the LEGO worlds with Kragle and demonstrated the weapon's effect on a random family, who became unable to move or do anything but talk. However, Falcon sought a more effective way to disperse Kragle, and sent Doris to the Think Tank so that she and other Master Builders would find such a way for him. He knew, however, that Doris' son had the MasterPiece which could stop him, and sent his forces on a manhunt.
Eventually, Black Falcon got the word of the remaining MasterBuilders' summit in Legotopia due to Vitruvius having e-mailed him by mistake and sent Bad Cop to intercept them. King Karl sold the MasterBuilders out to make up for his debt, and they were all captured. Black Falcon contacted them via video to explain his plan and gloat about it. The MasterBuilders and Emmet were imprisoned, but freed by the remorseful King Karl and escaped. They eventually infiltrated the Empura Tower, but got captured before they could stop Black Falcon, with only Benny, Neckbeard, Batman and R2-D2 escaping.
The tyrant had Emmet, Lucy, Doris and Virtuvius taken to his office room and forced them to watch as his ultimate weapon, "SuperKragleThingy Part II", laid waste to the LEGO universe and froze everything in place. Luckily, Emmet used Rodrigo's magnifying glass to burn his and his companions' restraints, and then used the MasterPiece to create a portal into the human world and disappeared. Black Falcon escaped the Empura Tower and entered SuperKragleThingy Part II to take direct control of it and continued its rampage. However, the citizens fought back, and Emmet eventually came back to his home universe. He and Doris broke into SKT2 and blocked the Kragle with the "Cone of Power", making it explode. The explosion knocked Black Falcon away, landing him into the volcano where the Empura Tower used to stand and killing him.
Trivia[]
- During Emmet's trip to the human world, Black Falcon is revealed to be an allegory for Ted, Finn's uncle, who is absent from the final script but plays nearly the same role as the Man Upstairs, Finn's father, and, unlike Black Falcon, does redeem himself. Ted also differs from the Man Upstair in that he has a known name and eventually becomes aware of the existence of the LEGO universe.
- Black Falcon was eventually reformed into Lord Business in the final script of the movie, with a number of changes to his character:
- Unlike Falcon, Business is never stated to have been Vitruvius' student or in a relationship with Emmet's mother.
- Unlike Falcon, who ruled Legopolis through President Iamnotarobot, Business doesn't use a puppet leader to run Bricksburg, appearing publicly on TV.
- Falcon kept his plans in full secrecy, while Business uses Taco Tuesday as a cover for them.
- Falcon tested Kragle on a random family, while Business forced Bad Cop to freeze his own parents and erased his Good Cop self for refusing to comply (notably, Bad Cop/Good Cop's parents are absent from the original script, while Good Cop's prototype is a completely separate character from Bad Cop and has virtually no role in the story beyond being present at Emmet's interrogation).
- Falcon acts as an allegory for Finn's uncle, while Business represents Finn's father instead.
- President Business eventually redeemed himself and destroyed Kragle, even unfreezing everyone he used the glue on, while Black Falcon died without redeeming himself.
