Emmet: I’m not special at all. Just ask my mom! I’m a totally average normal person!
Bad Cop: Oh yeah? What size coffee do you drink?
Emmet: Super grande.
Bad Cop: Dammit! I can't break him.
~ Bad Cop interrogating Emmet.

Bad Cop is the secondary antagonist of LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, the original version of The LEGO Movie, and Black Falcon's right-hand man. Much like in the final project, he is the main antagonist's main enforcer, hunting down MasterBuilders across the LEGO universe.

He was voiced by Liam Neeson in the final product.

Biography[]

Bad Cop first appears after Emmet is arrested for going off-instruction on his first day at job, interrogating him but being unable to get a confession out of him. After Doris and Lucy break Emmet out and the latter two manage to escape Legopolis, he sends everyone to chase after them, announcing that Emmet is wanted "broken or together".

Bad Cop is later seen spying on the runaways in Puerto Pieceo. After confirming the target, he takes command of a viking ship to chase after the heroes' pirate ship, the Sea Cow. They manage to escape Bad Cop by rebuilding their ship into a submarine. Despite this, Bad Cop and his minions are able to ambush the MasterBuilders and capture them in Legotopia, since Black Falcon became aware of their whereabouts. He takes Emmet's gang to the conference room so that Black Falcon can talk to them. While preparing to transport the heroes to a different place, he is attacked by King Karl, who rescues them and holds the villains off long enough for Emmet and the others to escape.

During the heroes' attempt to infiltrate the Empura Tower, Bad Cop continues to pursue them, eventually succeeding in capturing Emmet, Lucy and Doris. As the rest of the heroes escape in a spaceship, Bad Cop chases after them in his own with an army of robots. Eventually, the heroes' spaceship crashes into Bad Cop's, breaking him into pieces.

Trivia[]

  • Bad Cop is the only character in the script to use mild language with using the word "dammit" a few times. In the final script, all instances of him swearing are switched for the euphemism "darn".
  • Bad Cop in the original script differs drastically from his final version:
    • He doesn't have a split "Good Cop" personality. However, the script mentions two detectives interrogating Emmet, and assuming one of them is Bad Cop, the other could be the early version of Good Cop.
    • He also has a much greater variety of minions, beyond the Robo SWAT seen in The LEGO Movie, including ninja, vikings, their robotic versions and various mashups of them.
    • His parents are absent from the script, and Black Falcon tests his weapon on a random family instead of forcing Bad Cop to freeze his own relatives.
    • He isn't left for dead by Black Falcon and thus doesn't turn good.
    • He also dies while confronting the heroes, while in the final script Bad/Good Cop survives and goes on to appear in the sequel.
